The Hearts Behind
BAE Counselling & Therapy

Dr Genevieve Wong Tze-Lynn

“You are a beautiful, scented candle,
I am merely a wooden matchstick for you to rekindle the spark of your brightly glowing flame”

Relationships are of immense value to me because I believe we are all created with a deep need to feel cherished, cared for, and truly connected — both to ourselves and to those around us. In my counselling work, I see how struggles in relationships, whether with loved ones or within the self, can weigh heavily on our emotional and mental well-being. In therapy, I walk alongside individuals and couples as they rediscover meaningful connections, embrace healthier ways of communicating and strengthen the support around them — so that life feels lighter, fuller and more deeply enriched.

At the heart of all relationships lies the most significant one: the relationship we hold with ourselves. Conflicts within the deepest parts of our being can quietly pull us away from who we truly are, and from those we love. When these inner struggles surface, they ripple into different areas of life, often bringing pain and distress. If you find yourself in this place, know that you are not alone. I will gently navigate alongside you towards a sense of peace, meaning and even joy, as you nurture a healed, healthy and harmonious relationship with yourself

Whether you are experiencing grief and loss, coping with the pain from a broken relationship, feeling isolated, struggling with anxiety, stress or depression, facing difficult decisions and dilemmas or carrying challenges both within and beyond yourself — I am here to listen. In our time together, I offer a safe and supportive space where you can pause, reflect and be truly heard. My approach is gentle and collaborative: I walk alongside you, attuned to the rhythm of your pace, as you uncover your own strengths and take steady steps towards healing. I will be a steady and empathetic presence, encouraging you as you seek growth, change and the deeper peace you long for in your life.

Genevieve's seasons of growth and giving...

Through her counselling, Genevieve journeys with persons from all walks of life, offering a safe and nurturing presence as they seek healing, growth and meaningful change. Her approach is enriched by years of study, research and service, always grounded in compassion for human struggles and possibilities.

Genevieve’s work has always been drawn to how values, belief systems and personal histories shape the way people love, communicate and grow in their relationships — insights she now weaves naturally into her counselling practice. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Psychology on a full scholarship at Monash University, where her research explored the intricate connections between marital satisfaction, couple interactions, childhood memories and the enduring influence of the family-of-origin.

Her path reflects a deep attentiveness to human experience. She graduated with First Class Honours in both her Master of Professional Counselling (Monash University) and BSc (Hons) Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience (University of Nottingham). Earlier in her journey, she also trained as a Mental Health First Aider, an experience that deepened her sensitivity to people in distress and affirmed her emphasis on timely, empathetic care. Alongside her doctoral research, she has studied depression, trauma and special educational needs, strengthening her holistic understanding of mental health.

She is also a certified Clinical Supervisor with the Board of Counsellors Malaysia, offering guidance and mentorship to other counsellors and those in training.

In addition, Genevieve has been a forum panellist and facilitator for numerous community and corporate workshops, covering themes such as self-discovery, relationship enrichment, self-care, personal safety and mental health awareness. Many of these programmes were continued throughout the pandemic and lockdowns, when the need for connection and resilience was especially pressing. During this time, she also served as a Volunteer Registered Counsellor (Sukarelawan Kaunselor Berdaftar) with Malaysia’s national crisis hotline (Talian Kasih 15999 – Special COVID-19 Response), offering a compassionate ear and steady support to individuals and families navigating fear, grief and uncertainty.

Her passion for blending research, practice and creativity is reflected in her publications, from a co-authored research article on Autism and Theory of Mind to her poetry anthology Midnights With God. More recently, she authored Meaningful Flourishing: A Guided Journal, created to accompany individuals in cultivating reflection, resilience and hope in their everyday lives.

Whether through words, research or presence, Genevieve’s deepest calling remains the same: to accompany others in their journeys toward healing and hope.
